Isetnofret was one of the queens of Ramesses II, a pharaoh of Egypt's Nineteenth Dynasty.
The tomb of Nefertari, another of Ramesses II's queens, was discovered in the Valley of the Queens and is world-renowned for its beautiful wall paintings. Isetnofret's tomb, however, has never been found.
What if an underground temple built for Isetnofret had survived somewhere, waiting to be discovered?
This website was born from that imagined possibility.
Each time you visit, one of the ancient Egyptian gods or goddesses is chosen at random. You travel through the corridors of an imaginary underground temple, open a door, and encounter a deity who offers you a message for the day.
The images of the gods are based on real works of ancient Egyptian art: statues held in museums around the world, paintings preserved in tombs and temples, and illustrations from ancient papyri. They have been created using AI-assisted reconstruction, coloring, and manual editing. They are not necessarily photographs or exact reproductions of the original works.
Each deity is accompanied by an explanation of its role and significance in ancient Egyptian religion, together with information about the artworks and sources used as references.
The underground temple of Isetnofret is entirely fictional, as are the messages delivered by the gods. This website does not claim to reproduce actual divination or oracular practices of ancient Egypt.
We hope you enjoy meeting the gods and discovering the distinctive beauty of the art created by the people of ancient Egypt thousands of years ago.
